In celebration of Donald Duck’s 90th birthday, Disney+ are adding a few vintage shorts to the service.
Donald Duck first appeared in the Silly Symphonies short The Wise Little Hen (1934). The character would appear in many solo and Mickey Mouse short films in the following years, becoming a favourite among fans. Clarence Nash voiced him for over 50 years, giving the character his much-imitated vocal quality. In recent times, Donald has joined his fellow vintage Disney characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto in a series of shows aimed at a preschool audience.
Disney+ will be celebrating the iconic character with the addition of two classic shorts from 1950, plus a mystery short with no further information attached. The vintage shorts are as follows:
- Crazy Over Daisy (1950)
- Out on a Limb (1950)
These two vintage titles will presumably have received the same remastered treatment as the classic shorts uploaded last year for the company’s 100th-anniversary celebrations. These shorts, which also feature Chip and Dale, were previously released on the third volume of Walt Disney Treasures’ The Chronological Donald in 2007. The content of the third announced short, DIY Duck, is unknown.
There is no information regarding whether this content will be available outside the US. Given the nature of the anniversary and the company’s previous stance on such things, it is highly likely they will be released in the UK on the same date.
