How Does Disney Own The Show?
The Mary Tyler Moore Show was originally made by MTM Enterprises, a company the star founded with her then-husband Grant Tinker. The studio produced other TV classics such as The Bob Newhart Show, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere. The company was bought in 1988 by TVS Entertainment, the British ITV regional license holder for the south and south east. When they ceased broadcasting in 1993, TVS was purchased by International Family Entertainment. Fox then bought IFE in 1996. The MTM library was spun off into 20th Century Fox Television (Now 20th Television). In 2019, the film and TV assets of Fox were purchased by Disney.
There is currently no confirmed date for when or if the classic CBS sitcom will land on Disney Plus in the UK. Press in the UK ceased receiving full lists of upcoming content some time ago, replaced by highlights lists usually populated by modern titles. The show is currently available to stream on Disney-owned Hulu in the United States, so there is a possiility of it streaming in the UK. Given the recent launch of the Ad-tier, Disney could potentially lean on their catalogue to generate extra revenue.
