Sanford & Son Added to Amazon Prime (US)

Amazon Prime in the US has added all seasons of the classic American Sitcom Sanford and Son.

Developed by Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear, Sanford and Son first aired in 1972. It was based on the British sitcom Steptoe and Son, created by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. The American adaptation starred Redd Fox and Demond Wilson as the title characters.

The series ran for 136 episodes over 6 seasons. The opening theme was The Streetwalker by Quincy Jones. The show ended on NBC in 1977. The show subsequently received multiple spinoffs including Sanford Arms (1977), Grady (1975-6 and Sanford (1980-1).

Sanford and Son was one of a number of Successful American sitcoms based on British productions. Others included All in the Family (Till Death Us Do Part), Threes Company (Man About The House) and The Ropers (George and Mildred).

All six seasons of Sanford and Son are available to stream on Amazon Prime in the US.
