That’s TV is to broadcast the 1980s sitcom Duty Free, starring Keith Barron and Gwen Taylor.
What is Duty Free?
Duty Free was written by Eric Chappell and Jean Warr, produced by Yorkshire Television, and aired on ITV from 1984 to 1986. The series spanned 22 episodes across three series and a Christmas special.
It followed the escapades of David Pearce (Keith Barron) and his wife Amy (Gwen Taylor) as they holiday at a hotel in Marbella in Spain, only to become entangled in comedic situations with another British couple, Robert and Linda Cochran, played by Neil Stacy and Joanna Van Gyseghem.
The show has previously aired on ITV3 in reruns.
The Progression of That’s TV
That’s TV has significantly expanded its offerings in recent years. What started with airing just a few classic shows has now evolved into an entire evening’s schedule of British comedies. Other shows in their lineup include Are You Being Served Again, Goodnight Sweetheart, Steptoe and Son, and Benidorm. Rising Damp is due to premiere on the channel on the same night.
Jamie’s Reaction
This is one of those shows spoken fondly by a certain generation. I’ve never ventured to Spain with the Pearces or the Cochrans but may just start now. It’s nice to see That’s TV is finding other classic shows to air on a nightly basis.
