Classic Films added to MGM Amazon Channel in August 2023

Here at Old Time Review, we like to update you on classic pre-1980 films which are available to view on streaming services. According to JustWatch, August saw a large batch of films added to the MGM channel, an Amazon Prime Video subscription add-on that features productions from the studio’s owned movie and TV catalogue.

The films added include:

  1. In the Heat of the Night (1967) – Starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger.
  2. The Long Goodbye (1973 – Starring Elliot Gould.
  3. The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) – Starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.
  4. Red River (1948) – Directed and Produced by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.
  5. It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) Starring a whole host of legends including Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas, Jonathan Winters, Edie Adams and Dorothy Provine.
  6. Lilies of the Field (1963) – Starring Sidney Poitier and Lilia Skala.
  7. Yours, Mine and Ours (1968) – Starring Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda and Van Johnson.
  8. The Vikings (1958) – Starring Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh and Ernest Borgnine, with narration by Orson Welles.
  9. The Lawman (1971) – Starring Burt Lancaster
  10. West Side Story (1961) – Starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris. Music by Leonard Bernstein.
  11. The Barefoot Contessa (1954) – Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner.
  12. The Last Waltz (1978) – Documentary featuring a huge list of musical performers.
  13. The Unforgiven (1960) – Starring Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn.
  14. Bananas (1971) – Directed by and starring Allen alongside Louise Lasser and Carlos Montalban.
  15. Irma La Douce (1963) – Directed by Billy Wilder and starring Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon.
  16. The Train (1964) – Starring Burt Lancaster.

Most, if not all, of these titles derive from the United Artists catalogue of distributed films. All of the above is available to stream on MGM’s Amazon Prime Video Subscription channel.
