1970s’ The Wombles Coming to Blu-Ray for the first time

Fabulous Films will release new physical media of the 1970s version of The Wombles. The series recently appeared as a coming soon title on a leaflet put inside new releases. It is currently unknown when it will be released, but is expected to be sometime in 2024.

The Wombles featured the adventures of the titular small furry creatures who lived in burrows and collected and recycled human rubbish to make useful items. The series consisted of 60 episodes over two series, which originally ran between 1973 and 1975. It was narrated by Bernard Cribbins, who voiced all the characters including Oronoco, Tobermory and Great Uncle Bulgaria. It was produced by FilmFair and based on the Wombles characters created by Elisabeth Beresford.

This announcement follows the recently announced complete Blu-Ray of the original 70s series of Paddington. It is currently unknown whether there will be any more Filmfare titles in the pipeline. Stop frame titles from Smallfilms were released on Blu-Ray close together in October.

We will update this story when more information becomes available.
