Previously Lost Hollies TV performance to get DVD release

Kaleidoscope will release a DVD of The Hollies’ 1968 performance on the BBC TV show Colour Me Pop. The edition was previously thought lost until a 16mm copy was found in recently in the collection of it’s producer.

Colour Me Pop was first broadcast in 1968, and was a spin-off of the magazine arts show Late Night Line Up. Produced and directed by Steve Turner, the show (broadcast in colour) featured 30-minute sets by Rock and Pop groups. It ran for one series of 53 episodes, ending in 1969. Due to the wiping policy of the BBC at the time, most of the editions of the show are missing.

The DVD includes the full performance by The Hollies, first broadcast on the 7th of September 1968. Songs performed by the band include Stop Stop Stop, Very Last Day, Butterfly, Carrie-Anne, Listen to Me, A Taste of Honey and Blowin’ in the Wind.

The found copy of the show was a monochrome version. The colour was restored through chroma dot recovery (previously used on classic sitcoms). Both versions of the show are featured in this set.

Also included is behind the scenes footage from a French TV programme.

Colour Me… Hollies is available to order from Kaleidoscope’s TV Brain website. It will be released on the 5th of October 2023.
