BFI announces CINEMA UNBOUND: The Creative Worlds of Powell and Pressburger

From 16th October to 31st December 2023, the BFI will be celebrating the legendary filmmaking partnership of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.

Known and revered for such classic works as The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), A Matter of Life and Death (1946) and Black Narcissus (1947), Powell and Pressburger are now to be honoured in a programme of cinema showings, BFI Distribution re-releases, a BFI Southbank exhibition, new books and much more. The UK-wide, 2 month long event follows on from such successful projects as BFI’s The Genius of Hitchcock in 2012.

Not only will Cinema Unbound celebrate the most well-known and highly regarded works of the cinematic partnership, it is also set to feature lesser known early works, discuss unrealised projects that never came to fruition, and even home movie material from both Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.

We will report on further details when they are announced.
