BBC Four to broadcast classic Come Dancing

1

It has been announced that BBC Four will show classic editions of Come Dancing, presented by Terry Wogan with commentary from Ray Moore. Consisting of seven episodes, BBC Four’s schedule shows the series starting on New Year’s Day with an episode from 1979. It will be the first time these episodes have been broadcast in decades.

Come Dancing was originally shown on BBC television in 1949 and ran on and off until 1998. Hosts have included Wogan, Peter West, Angela Rippon, Judith Chalmers, Pete Murray, Michael Aspel et al. The regional ballroom dancing competition show was later revamped as Strictly Come Dancing in 2004, which continues to this day.

At present it is unclear whether all planned episodes will originate from 1979, as (at this time) only the first two episodes have been announced. We will continue to report on this story as it develops.

Come Dancing will begin on Sunday the 1st of January 2023 at 7pm, continuing every week at the same time.
