Status Quo Milestones in 2024

Summary

In this episode of The Quo-Cast: A Status Quo Fan Podcast, Jamie Dyer discusses the Quo-related anniversaries in 2024.

  1. Spare Parts (1969): The second album by Status Quo was released fifty years ago. It continued the psychedelic sound from their debut but utilised strings on many tracks.
  2. Quo (1974): Quo turns fifty years old this year, and is possibly the heaviest album in their entire back catalogue. It features several songs written by Alan Lancaster and Rick Parfitt including Backwater, Just Take Me, Don’t Think It Matters, Drifting Away and Lonely Man. Dave Field illustrated the iconic album cover art featuring the Quo tree.
  3. Whatever You Want (1979): This album turns forty-five this year! Aside from the hit title song, the Whatever You Want album brought several fan favourite songs including Living on an Island, Who Asked You and Breaking Away.
  4. End of the Road (1984): The End of the Road tour was forty years ago, and was the last tour to feature Alan Lancaster in the lineup until 2013. The performance at the Milton Keynes Bowl, which was Pete Kirchers last full gig with the band, was released on VHS shortly afterwards.
  5. Perfect Remedy (1989): Turning thirty-five this year, is the album which features Little Dreamer, The Power of Rock and… Address Book. It wasn’t a success at the time.
  6. Thirsty Work (1994): Thirty years ago, Thirsty Work was released! It’s a lighter affair for the band, but there are some highlights; Particularly Goin’ Nowhere, Rude Awakening Time and the melodic Point of No Return.
  7. Under the Influence (1999): Seen by some as a return to form, twenty-five-year-old Under the Influence was the first original studio album to be released in five years. It featured fan favourites such as Twenty Wild Horses, Under the Influence, The Way It Goes and Shine On.
  8. Aquostic: Stripped Bare (2014): A decade has passed since the release of this album of Quo songs recorded in an acoustic style. Entitled Stripped Bare, the line-up was complimented with a string section, backing singers and an accordion. It featured takes on most of Quo’s big hits along with selected album tracks. It was the first album to feature drummer Leon Cave.
  9. Backbone (2019): It is hard to believe five years have passed since the release of Status Quo’s 33rd album. This was the first Quo album since the passing of Rick Parfitt. It was the first (and to date only) studio album to feature Richie Malone. It features songs such as the title track, Liberty Lane, Cut Me Some Slack and Get Out of My Head.
