Rewind TV to air Rarely Seen Early Tony Hancock Appearances

British channel Rewind TV will soon broadcast a piece of television history, unseen on TV for decades. It will air Jack Hylton Presents The Tony Hancock Show, the latter comedian’s first dedicated foray into television. According to a press release by the channel, the series was “last seen in 1956”.

Already a household name due to his radio show, these TV appearances were originally broadcast live. “Sharp, absurd, and full of promise, this rare series offers an incredible glimpse into the formative TV years of one of Britain’s most beloved comedians. The show’s writers include Eric Sykes, a master craftsman of British comedy, who also appears alongside Hancock in several sketches.”

Richard Latto of Rewind TV says: “This is more than just television history—it’s comic gold, unseen for seven decades. We’re honoured to bring it back to the British public and it marks its first transmission for nearly seven decades.”

Jamie’s Reaction

What a treat! Following the channel’s previous airing of a rarely seen Tony Hancock series, they go and find another one to expose to a new audience.

It’ll be interesting to see how agile Hancock appears during these appearances, especially as many of us are more familiar with his latter day visual work. I’m sure there’ll be traces of his trademark delivery on show. Bravo Rewind TV!

When will this be on Rewind TV?

Jack Hylton Presents The Tony Hancock Show will first air on the 24th August at 3.30 PM. For more scheduling details, please see the channel’s listings.
