Continuing their run of adding dedicated channels for classic series, Pluto TV UK, an ad-supported streaming platform, has added the classic action-adventure series MacGyver. It is available to stream via the app and runs 24 hours a day.
This news follows recent dedicated channel additions of Gunsmoke, Rawhide and Taxi.
What is MacGyver?
The show follows Angus MacGyver, a secret agent who prefers using his scientific knowledge and improvised gadgets over violence. He is known for using his scientific knowledge and ingenuity to get out of any situation using the most common of objects. The series stars Richard Dean Anderson in the title role. MacGyver originally aired on ABC from 1985 to 1992, running for seven seasons and a total of 139 episodes. The show returned in 1994 for two TV films. There was also a reboot in 2016.

My first exposure to the concept of MacGyver was as a running gag in The Simpsons, with the show being Patty and Selma’s absolute favourite. In the last few years, I’m not sure the original series has been available to stream in the UK. This is a surprise given it holds such iconic status.
The idea of a streaming channel on Pluto TV isn’t the most convenient place to catch such a series, especially when you want to watch the whole thing from the beginning. These dedicated channels give a more traditional approach to viewing, an opportunity to drop in to get an idea of the flavour. If I want an action series in the background while I work, I’ll certainly be streaming this show!
