British channel Rewind TV will soon broadcast the classic comedy panel show Jokers Wild, hosted by Barry Cryer. According to Cordbusters, the series will begin airing on the 2nd of July, 2025, with episodes scheduled for 10:30am and 7:30pm.
What is Jokers Wild?
Originally made by Yorkshire Television for ITV from 1969 to 1974, Jokers Wild was a comedy panel show where stand-up comedians, writers, and entertainers competed to tell the best jokes. Each week, two teams of three comedians compete for points by telling jokes on a specific subject chosen by Cryer, who pulls it from a box on his desk. It aired for 169 episodes over 9 series.
Hosted by Barry Cryer, the show featured regular appearances from comedians such as Ted Ray, Arthur Askey, Les Dawson, and Ray Martine. Other guests across the series included Jon Pertwee, John Cleese, Ted Rogers, Norman Collier, Chic Murray, Alfred Marks, Lance Percival, Charlie Chester, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Sid James and Jack Douglas.
The UK’s Rewind TV and the ever-growing schedule!
Rewind TV is a British channel available on Sky (182) and Freeview (92). It showcases a variety of classic television shows and movies from around the world. The channel has continued to add titles each month to its ever-growing schedule, many from the vaults of various ITV regions. Recent additions have included You’re Only Young Twice, Please Sir and In Loving Memory.
In addition to Jokers Wild, other titles coming to the channel soon include Jack Hargreaves’ Old Country and A Sharp Intake of Breath.

When Rewind TV launched last year, I never could have imagined they would push the envelope so much as to what they could show. We’re used to reruns of sitcoms and dramas, but the classic panel show rarely gets a look in! They’ve changed all that with the addition of Jokers Wild to the schedule, and I can’t be more excited!
This is a chance to see some of the best performers of the 20th century, interacting with each other and telling gags while being chaired by the great Barry Cryer. A time capsule of the 1970s comedy scene. I’m sure there’ll be warnings all over the content, as there should be, but it’s a small price to pay to see this show on broadcast television once again. A piece of comedy history.
I hope this is the start of more vintage panel shows making their way to the channel. The format has had a resurgence in recent years, but as BBC Four’s reruns of Call My Bluff and Going For A Song demonstrated, the old ones still have something to give!
