This week, I have been a little under the weather. This meant that I couldn’t get an episode of the podcast out on any of the established platforms. It was then that I decided to take the opportunity to use the new website. In this post, I want to discuss the announcement of Rhino’s new album.

I am very excited to hear that John Rhino Edwards will be releasing a new solo album in March of this year. The album, entitled Just Sayin’ features 14 tracks on the CD version, 12 on the vinyl; It was produced by Mike Paxman. I pre-ordered the digipak from his online store the moment I saw it announced, as I enjoyed his previous two studio albums. It’s always an interesting listen because the genre wanders towards Quo, but it doesn’t loiter there. I’ve enjoyed the various dips into other areas in his previous work, all delivered in Rhino’s own vocal style.

Do you have a favourite Rhino song? Personally, I really enjoy spinning the likes of Spend Spend Spend, One Note Blues, Famous and Secretary. I’ve also been known to attempt to play along to The Republican, which has a really cool opening intro. I really enjoy Rhino’s songwriting, as he writes with honesty, and occasionally a level of bite. Then there are other times where he just has fun with it; Who else could write and perform My Name is Stan or All the Girls Love a Bastard?

Before the release of the full album, Rhino released several promotional videos on YouTube to spread the word. These include You’re Never Too Old, Good Evening Primrose, Limbo, and My Side of the Road.

Good Evening Primrose: A sweet little number, which has a laid-back vibe. I love the use of the organ in the intro, along with the smooth acoustic guitar strumming in the verses. The harmonies in the chorus are gorgeous. This could end up being one of my favourite songs on the album.

Limbo: A darker mood to this one, with appropriately evocative lyrics. There’s something almost classical about the backing in this composition.

You’re Never Too Old To Rock and Roll: A future Rock ‘n” Roll anthem that will catch on in the Quo Army. Rhino first started performing this song during live gigs about 5 years ago, and fans have been waiting for a full studio version. This one features Francis Rossi on lead guitar and backing vocals. Very catchy song.

My Side of the Road: A mid tempo Blues number that grooves along nicely. Very vintage in its style. I can see a lot of Quo fans will like this one.

Just Sayin’ is available to pre-order at www.RhinosRevenge.com. It will be released on the first of March 2024.

There are copies of the digipak CD (numbered limited edition of 1,000) and 140g black vinyl 12″ album (hand-numbered and signed limited edition of 250) still available.

  1. I adore both of his previous albums and so can’t wait for this new one. They are always really interesting lyrically, with great playing and crisp production. I usually end up thinking that any of his that could have been Quo numbers are songs Rossi was mad to pass on.
